WilliamsWare LE.EXE
(LaserEnvelope Version 1.5)
Copyright 1991, WilliamsWare
Program Overview
LE prints #10 envelopes on HP LaserJet II, IIP, III, or compatible
and similarly configured laser printers. You can print without a
return address, or with a return address, which is kept on file.
You can enter envelopes from the keyboard, or read a data file. The
data file must be a plain vanilla ascii file, containing five lines
for each addressee (even if blank).
The program uses courier, or whatever landscape font you have on
line at the time. You can also download a landscape soft font, if
you choose.
Installation
LE requires that you have DEVICE=ANSI.SYS in your CONFIG.SYS file
to operate properly. You can copy LE.EXE to any directory on your
hard disk, or use it from a floppy disk.
Getting Started
Enter WWLE to start the program to enter envelopes from the
keyboard; enter LE filename.txt to print envelopes from a file
named filename.txt. The first time you use the program, no return
address will be on file. You can enter one now by selecting [C]
from the menu. Do this first; the other menu options do not allow
you to return to change your address without restarting the
program. You can enter three lines for your return address. Type
them flush left; LE will center the lines for you, if you choose.
Note: if you use a proportional font for your envelopes, centering
the return address may not align satisfactorily.
Open the trap door in your printer, so that the envelopes will have
a straight path <197> they will jam if you try to run them along
the regular paper path. WWLE will set your printer for manual
feeding. If you are using a IIP, select [A] from the menu to adjust
the print position for that printer.
Please note that some envelopes print better than others. Thick,
laid finish envelopes do not print well in the corner card area.
If you want to download a soft font, select [D]. You can download
any landscape font of the appropriate size and style. The line
spacing is set at 12 points, but can be changed at print time if
necessary to accomodate a larger font.
After entering your return address, adjusting the position, or
downloading a font, press [R] to continue with the program. You are
reminded to open the trap door. If you are entering envelopes from
the keyboard, you will be prompted to enter five lines (including
blank lines), after which your choices appear:
[P]rint envelope (you can print the same envelope more than once)
[R] - print with return address
[C]hange spacing - add spacing in increments of 1/300th of an
inch. 25 = about 6 points.
[E]nter a new addressee.
[Q]uit
To print, place an envelope in your manual feed tray and press the
key of your choice.
When printing from a file, the name of the file will appear when
you press [R] from the menu. Each addressee will appear in turn in
the box where you would normally type in the addressee.
When printing from a file, your options are to print, print with
return, skip or quit. You can print only one of each envelope when
printing from a file.
You can create a file for LE to use with your word processor <197>
save the list in ASCII format. Each record, or address must contain
five lines, even if some of the lines are blank.
NOTE: LE was not designed to use with automatic envelope feeders.
